TEAM BUILDING IN THE METAVERSE: COMPANIES INVEST IN THE 3D UNIVERSE

In an age where everything is virtual-oriented, a large number of companies are investing in the Metaverse with the aim of increasing the level of loyalty of their consumers, connecting with their audience in other ways and increasing profits. Other companies, on the other hand, are wondering if the Metaverse can have its relevance for their business: the immediate answer is Yes!

What is the Metaverse?

It is a persistent and perpetually online 3D universe that combines different virtual spaces, very realistic and that can be considered as a future evolution of the Internet: Web 3.0 . In these virtual environments it is possible to share engaging experiences even with physically distant people, buy and sell products and services, sign contracts or recruit and train new talents. In the future we will even be able to instantly teleport, in the form of a hologram, to the office, to a concert or to the living room of friends and family without taking a step.

Consumers and companies will be able to bring their identities, their money and their experiences to the Metaverse: for example, it will be possible to visit a factory on the other side of the world, see and touch its machinery, shake hands with the local manager and attend the production phases without leaving the desk. Or, consumers looking for a new car will also be able to move from one dealer to another, even feeling the wind in their hair as they try out the various cars.

What are the business benefits of the Metaverse?

The Metaverse has the potential to change the way people interact with each other and this could most likely lead to an evolution in the way we interface with colleagues and customers as well.

Not only does it allow to enrich the consumer experience with interactive stimuli, while at the same time collecting new data from users, the Metaverse also represents the ideal opportunity to launch virtual products and promote new physical and digital services. As happened with the American bank JP Morgan which for its first big step in the Metaverse created a room inside the virtual shopping center Metajuku of “Decentraland”, the metaverse based on Blockchain: to welcome customers a tiger and a digital portrait of Jamie Dimon (CEO of JP Morgan), upstairs instead an executive presents the bank’s cryptocurrency. But in addition to new commercial opportunities, the Metaverse offers companies the opportunity to involve their employees in activities that stimulate teamwork and creativity in a decidedly unconventional way.

Meta Team Experience and Team Building in the Metaverse

Corporate Team Building has always promoted teamwork with the aim of encouraging communication and trust in one’s team, improving problem solving skills and stress management: but is all this possible also in the Metaverse?

Already last December, the Turin-based agency Tembo brought together its employees in the Metaverse, rebuilding the entire physical location of the offices on Minecraft – one of the most famous online games of the last twenty years – for the corporate Christmas event. Every room, courtyard, and even the coffee room was made in the form of pixels, and every member of the Tembo team was projected into the Metaverse via a custom avatar. After a check at their desk and the year-end speech in the meeting room, the participants were divided into teams to start a fun team building with colored blocks that gave the impression of returning to the usual office life…but remotely.

Conceived by Staff Team Building, the Meta Team Experience is a virtual team building activity with very real emotions.

With a maximum duration of 180 minutes and with up to 20 participants at a time, this innovative team building activity aims to bring the participants to live an immersive experience in the Metaverse, to discover the Blockchain, the Cryptocurrencies, the Augmented Reality and the World Wide Web 3.0.

In full compliance with safety procedures, a social distance of 1.50m will be guaranteed, no material passage between one participant and another, the use of masks, tablets and personal viewers.

The format is divided into various phases:

1 – Initial brief

The basic concepts of Web 3.0 and all the innovations it entails are explained through examples and practical exercises.

2 – Blockchain

Using wooden blocks, the participants will compete as a team to understand how a “Chain of Blocks” is created and structured. Also in this phase the Cryptocurrencies and NFTs will be defined.

3 – Augmented Reality

Through the use of a tablet, participants will have to discover information, clues and personalized elements hidden around them and visible only through this device. A type of activity reminiscent of the game mode of the Pokemon GO video game.

4 – First Contact

Thanks to the virtual reality viewers, each participant will be catapulted into his first personal and immersive experience in the Metaverse: often futuristic scenarios with the sea, the mountains or even skyscrapers. It is possible to customize the settings more according to the customer’s requests and needs, by inserting specific logos or objects. In this step they will have the opportunity to venture into this new “reality”, but interacting only with a robot who will provide them with information.

5 – Team Contact

At this point of the game all the participants in the form of avatars and already divided into 2 teams “White” and “Red” will enter the same room, welcomed by a trainer and will have the opportunity to interact with each other. To conclude the experience, a challenge between teams that can include activities such as: collecting objects, reconstructing an image, a logo or a word.

6 – Debrief

This phase involves an exchange of views and reflections on the experience in the metaverse and on the world wide web 3.0 in general. The winning team of the final contest will receive the Best Meta Team award which will be personalized with the company logo and text.

The possibility of organizing this activity even remotely requires that each participant be sent home a viewer already configured and ready to connect to the Metaverse. An experience that will undoubtedly revolutionize this sector and that unlike a meeting on Zoom offers more stimuli for creativity and teamwork. Could this be the way to 3.0 training?
